As I become more confident in my color grading, I'm relying less on LUT's when grading log footage (SLog3 from Sony FS7.) I'll apply a LUT when cutting, but once the picture is locked down, I delete the LUT and grade from scratch. Because I'm mainly producing 30-second spots, I normally only have 10-15 shots to grade. I certainly don't consider myself a colorist by any stretch, but it got me wondering...do most colorists start with a LUT and grade from there or do they completely grade from scratch?
