Anyone using SSHDs for media?

My edit one system is beginning to show its age and I'm on a programme of upgrading piece-meal. Ultimately there will be a brand new PC, but I have to do it in stages.

The internal media storage is currently 2 x Raid 0 striped 512Gb drives - giving me 1Tb storage. Because they're striped they are vulnerable, so only used for replaceable media i.e. Transcodes, renders etc., (all non-replaceable media goes to a set of mirrored drives). Anyway, I believe one of the striped drives is giving notice (they are 5+ years old), so I need to replace. I was looking at the Seagate FireCuda Solid State Hybrid Drives (SSHD) and wondered of there was any point in using those instead of regular HDDs.

Anyone using SSHDs? Do they RAID in the same way as regular HDDs? Do you get any speed benefit, given that video files are very large?

Thought and musings welcomed

Matt
