Media Composer v8.5.1 Launched Today 10 March 2016
We are pleased to announce the release of Media Composer v8.5.1 today, March 10, 2016 @ 12:00 noon EST.
Location of the Release: The Media Composer v8.5.1 release is available on the Download Center (login and password required) in the Media Composer Folder and the Editor Patch Folder within the Products List.
Full and Patch Installers: The Media Composer v8.5.1 release comes as a full installer, however there is also a patch Installer for PC users who are on v8.5 already.
My Avid and AppMan: Both the Master Account ( My Avid ) and Application Manager will be ready for those to upgrade if they are eligible.
Licensing and Activation: Information on Licensing, Dongle updates and Activation is listed below.
- The ability to launch Media Composer v8.5.1 software is dependent on the status of your Avid Upgrade & Support Plan on the date this software version is released (March 10, 2016).
- Please read the How to Update Your License page before upgrading to this release as it takes into account new installs, upgrades for both dongle based and SW licensing based systems and Floating licenses.

- The FlexVersioner, as has been stated in the past, is no longer supported for this release.

How Customers Obtain Media Composer v8.5.1: The latest update to Media Composer will be available worldwide by Thursday, March 10, 2016.
- Customers who have already installed the latest version of Media Composer v8.5 will be notified of the availability of the v8.5.1 upgrade via the Application Manager. The Apps tab will also provide a link to download and install the update when desired.
- New customers who purchase Media Composer will receive this v8.5.1 update in their Master Avid Account.
- Customers on current Upgrade & Support plans can download the Media Composer v8.5.1 update either from their My Avid Master Avid Account or the Avid Download Center (login and password required.)
- Customers not on a current Upgrade & Support contract must purchase either a new Media Composer Subscription or Perpetual license to receive this update.
Fixes: Included in this update are a number of bug fixes, including:
- Start of play was delayed when working with Avid Artist | DNxIO hardware.
- In some instances, you could hear audio pops in dissolves
- When playing back at full video quality in a 1080i/59.94 project, imported XDCAM media appeared zoomed in
- Go to Timecode in the Source monitor was not working properly
- The editing application crashed when Legacy Ancillary data was enabled when in MultiCam mode
- When “use background check-in from editors” was enabled in the Interplay Administrator, the editing application would crash after performing a check in
