We're experiencing poor CPU utilisation when rendering a timeline in Avid. We're using a 10gbps connection to our Avid Nexis storage system and only achieving write speeds of around 200mbps. We would expect higher write speeds with more CPU utilisation but for some reason it only stays at around 13% on all cores for the entire render process. Editors are left waiting a long time for the render to complete (sometimes with clients in the room) so we're keen to know what could help speed it up. The machines are newly purchased HP Z8G4's (see computer spec below).
It's taken roughly 1.5 hours to render an estimated 25 minutes worth of sapphire field merge effects to DNx185 X resolution MXF files. Video mixdowns however send the CPU usage to max and we achieve the high write speeds we expect so is it something not set correct with Sapphire / Avid?
Is there a recommended setting with sapphire / avid to increase the amount of CPU usage when rendering? We see maximum CPU usage during video mixdowns but not with the rendering of sapphire effects. Attached screenshot shows what we're getting out of the CPU's when rendering here.
