Closing Gaps in timeline and making timeline longer

Hi 

I'm trying to close the gap in the track after I have lifted a part of footage. Avid is telling me to add in and out points on the then extract.  Is there quicker way of closing the gap.

2) Also trying to make the timeline longer at the end without adding media.  I tried adding filler but you cannot add filler at the end of the timelime
