I've been editing on MC for a few decades now... I still often face AMA files being offline. A typical situation is that I'll link to camera files on an external drive and transcode them to offline quality DNxHD on an internal drive or RAID for the offline edit. When I'm done, I'll relink back to the AMA camera files on the external, transcode to HQ-Online quality DNxHD and finish. But 99% of the time when I try to relink back to the camera files on the external drive, they're offline and the system doesn't recognize the sources on the external drive because the drive letter change or some other reason. (when you have half a dozen external drives attached on any given day, drive letters get all mixed up.)
The trick I use to get these back online is to create a new bin and use the source browser to link a few of the files in the project and hope the rest of them come back online. This still seems like a work-around rather than a 'best practice' to get this done. Anyoneone else have a better method of relinking to AMA files when the system doesn't recognize them?
