Can a dongle be used across Mac and PC?

Hi 

I am considering an editing system upgrade - I am considering a Mac Mini M1  rather than a gaming laptop. My existing PC is still viable and I will stiull use it for encoding and editing projects as needed 

I am still using a dongle and was wondering if the dongle will be valif for both PC and Mac - or does the dongle need to be flashed with Mac specific code?
