Hi everybody:
I’ve had a strange problem in Avid that I discovered when doing the sound turnovers.
The AAF files (embebed), when opened in Protools show the clips of some days out of sync when relinked to the original audio files via Field Recorder tool to recover all the microphones.
The clips are out of sync by an aleatory number of seconds in each of them.
When checking in Resolve with a "link only" AAF, I can see that the audio IN point are indeed different than Avid´s.
The out of sync clips belong to some shoot days. For example days 10, 11,13,17, 29.
All columns and metadata are identical. During the shooting I imported all that sound in the same computer everyday with the same Avid version.
I took the audio and video .mxf files of day 11 to another computer, created a new project, dragged the .mdb files to a bin, autosynced, created a sequence with a few cuts, exported the .AAF and it worked OK in Protools and Resolve. Everything in sync.
Then, I took the bins of day 11 of my original project to this one (audio master, video master and synced), put some audio master clips in a timeline, made some cuts, exported the AAF, and it’s in sync.
As a last test, I put some subclips in a timeline, made a few cuts, exported the AAF, and it’s OUT of sync.
So, basically I narrowed the issue to be a problem in the audio master clips metadata, getting corrupted when doing the autosync.
Have you ever came across this issue?
I solved the issue by handing the turnovers conforming manually with a keyboard macro: Matchframing the subclips to get the audio master clips into the timeline.
No big deal thanks to this keyboard macro: mark clip > matchframe > V1 > matchframe > overwrite
I wanted to find the root of this issue and possible solutions different to conforming de audio master clips manually.
I´m attaching the Day 11 bin so you can test it without media, you can check in the edit index of the exported AAF (not embebed) in Resolve how the audio IN points are different than the Avid´s:
