MC8 Diary
The first thing noticed is that MC5 is a new beast.
Here are some AVCHD files to try.
The first 3 files are mts.
Because MC5 is capable of importing AVCHD files.
Update:
1) The import is slow but the files are coming fine into MC.
2) NTSC clips can't be imported into a PAL project as MC detects the framerate and stops you.
3) Once come into MC they play fantastic.

MC 8.5/Windows 10 AVCHD Audio Issue
Greetings,
I had upgraded to MC 8.5 with no issues while still on Windows 7. I decided to give Windows 10 a whirl and everything seems great except I am not getting any audio from AVCHD import or AMA. Other formats seem fine. Any thoughts?

Set everything for good performance on a slow machine
Hi editors,
Is there any good tips or a list where all the cpu/gpu consuming settings can be changed?
My machine is not that fast, and i realize when I have Stuff in my timeline which has some frameflex applied and even lots of audio transitions make the machine work quite a lot.
I already found this:
High Quality Scaling for Real Time Decode (VIDEO DISPLAY SETTINGS)
Then I guess its better to Preview DVE effects with the openGL Graphic card (VIDEO DISPLAY SETTINGS)
Confidence View (here i dont know if that is power consuming or not)
Real Time Audio dissolves (AUDIO PROJECT SETTINGS) - but this one I really don't wanna turn off :/ is it soo intense?
And in the end the video quality menu...
any other tips?

Source browser wont link to H264 files
MC 8.6.4 Windows 10 (Edit 3 in my specs)
Client has sent me some H264 (.MP4) files, which I expected to be able to link to, however Source Browser says they cant be linked to.
I transferred the project, on an external drive, to my MC 7.6.4 (Edit 1 in my specs) and the files linked and played fine.
Moved back to Edit 3 and MC8.6.4 and although the bin now shows then as linked files they are offline.
Any ideas?

Cannot monitor data due to the following: Color Space: RGB
Does Avid support capturing the data track in RGB 444?
When I try to selet the data track in the capture tool it un-selects itself.
If I force it to batch capture with a data track the data track does not come across. When I select the track (with the media offline) Avid give me this error:
Cannot monitor data due to the following:
Color Space: RGB
So does Avid not support ancillary data in 444 color space?
I'm working on a Nitris DX with version 8.

Replacement for Quadro 4000
The Quadro 4000 card in my Z800 just died.
I'm having trouble finding a replacement since the Quadro 4000 is EOL. I don't want buy a used or refurbrished card.
Can I use a Quadro K4200 in the Z800? According to the Avid Configuration Matrix, only the Quadro 4000 is specified for the z800. But if I've got to replace the card, the K4200 would double the memory of the 4000 and I could add a third display to keep open the audio mixer, etc. The K series is PCI Express 2.0, which should be compatible with the z800.

How can I get the waveform showed on the source monitor if previewing a music clip?thanks to any reply in advance.

MC versions 6.5.2 and 8.4.2
I need to keep 6.5.2 for SriptSync and PhraseFind. But my client has a Canon C300 project...
Foo. Really? Why not just use Red or even an iPhone? So easy.
Now I have to upgrade. Can I run both versions on the same laptop, or will I need to uninstall 6.5.2?

AMA link Audio trouble
While linking to AMA files, the audio is out of sync and it has a staccato sound to it. I'm importing SD footage files from a hard drive to an HD project, not sure if that matters. The file is a Quick Time, Is there a setting I am missing?

Sampling Key Color in Spectramatte
Sampling a key color behaves differently in 8.6 than it did in all previous versions (MC 4 -7) that I've work with. In 8.5, when I try to sample a green screen background, for example, the Key Color will not be applied unless "Bypass" is checked. In previoius versions, I could sample a key without enabling Bypass.
I'm curious why this change? Is it a bug or intentional?

Source Browser not releasing PSD files
What I mean is that if I import a PSD file into MC using the source browser - then go and make a change to the PSD file, I can not save that file in Photoshop b/c Photoshop sees it as being used by another application. Then I have to save the file as a revised file and import that. Then if there are other changes to that file I have to add another revised file, and another.
This only happens during the current session Im working in, but it doesnt seem to make sense to have to quit out of MC and then go back in just to reimport a PSD layer.
This happens when I work with AE files to. The render queue failes b/c the file is already open and being used by Source Browser.
Is there a way to quit the Source Browser and have it release those files?

What do the grey boxes mean on clips in my timeline?
Hey guys,
Been trying to research this on my own, but I'm not having any luck. What do the grey boxes mean on certain clips in your timeline. There is a green dot over them, which I know means that the clip needs to be rendered, but I don't really understand what the grey box means. Its in the center of a clip on the timeline and there is a letter insde the grey box. The letter seems to change depending on the project I'm working in. The clip I'm rendering now has a "c" inside the grey box. Not all clips have them, and some do. I want to understand what it means.

Disk seems corrupted - what now?
Hi,
In ten years on this forum I've been dreading having to write this post.
The disk my project is on seems to have given up the ghost.
It was a 4K project with all media edited natively then mixed down to HD for export.
Firstly it says ...various files are not an .MXF file.
Offers the chance to Quarantine.
I Quarantine all.
Then it tries to scan the drive: Scanning E:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\...
Hangs forever. Strange noises from drive.
I went back and deleted .mdb and .pmr.
Tried again.
Still hangs.
Will let the drive cool down overnight but suspect it's kaput (NB 3GB drive - avoid at all costs, they even seem to self-erase when copying large quantities of music/films etc).
So what now?
I'm dimly aware you can 'relink'? to the original rushes. Any idea how?
Where does the newly-imported media and metadata go? Onto a whole new drive?
What happens to the old metadata, currently on the kaput drive? Thinking colour correction etc.
There were also a couple of bought-in effects, originals on rushes drive but saved to kaput drive.
I acknowledge this is a total meltdown but eventually one has to learn this stuff - can anyone help?

Hang on Initializing Media Streams Manager
I’ve had a persistent problem for the last few days with avid MC8 hangs on Initializing Media Streams Manager. I rebuilt all of my databases and followed allot of recommendations to fix the problem. I finally was looking at my computer set-up and notice a USB3 device a Sony SxS card reader/writer pluged in, I unplugged it and Avid went back to normal operation. Why was Avid trying to read an empty reader?

Out of sync after the Avid Background Rendering

I regularly meetwith this problemat10 framesout of sync on fragments,whicheffects are rendering in thebackgrounds.
It does not dependon the Avid version.Sometimes itmanifests itselfin theindividual fragments, sometimesat all.

Hi, well I have a some cellphone footage I need to use and some videos that where downloaded from the web. How can I use these videos inside a 1080p project? Of course the footage is in a smaller size and I want to be able to enlarge it..

"Initializing Media Streams" snag fix
Just found this posted 2 weeks ago by Matthew Mullen on Creative Cow. Works a champ. Thought I'd repost here in the hope it helps some poor *** like me who has suffered with this "snag" for a while now. Forgive me if it's already posted herein and I missed it. Thanks Matthew.

We were able to get this working by renaming the ManagedAMAFolders.xml file in Users/Public Documents/Avid Media Composer/AMA Management folder
