WRONG FORMAT qt 2011.07 (qt )

It seems Media Composer interprets some quicktime footage with qt 2011.07 (qt ) in the header as WRONG FORMAT.

It's funny that Media Composer 8.2.11 considers this to be WRONG FORMAT - but has no problem transcoding the material without any error message at all - so we get hours of useless 'error message' video on the drive.

I had a bunch of files from 2 panasonic cameras shooting in the same format (i'll post details later) - the only difference is in the metadata - files with qt 2011.07 (qt ) in the header transcode to wrong format files, ones with 2014.07(qt) are OK. Both files have perfectly identical metadata and are identical format, framerate, sample rate, raster etc. except for the Codec ID of course.

So 2 questions - why does Media Composer insist on this irrelevant metadata to interpret footage that is by all intent and purposes exactly the same as footage shot with a camera with a later qt stamp - the format is clearly not wrong, but the metadata is - so why not just try and ingest it?

and, before we blame it on the plugin programmers again  - does anyone know if there might be a fix at all?
