I searched for this topic.. but was surprised that I couldn't find anyting on it.

I would think Avid could do this... I'm hoping.

I just want to be able to cut up a baked Quicktime file using an EDL (this is all coming from Final Cut 7).  I Have the EDL and the Baked Quicktime.  I can't figure out how to do this.  I know other apps can use the EDL to cut the video.. but I can't figure out how to do it in Avid.

We are finishing a documentary.. and Avid is the best tool for doing the finishing.  But I just need to get the Quicktime cut up.  Doing it manually for a 2 hour feature would be quite painful.

I've been getting an error when I try to render Audio Clip FX. but not every time.

I was using the RX6 voice de-noiser (which is fantastic) however on some clips on the same timeline I am getting this error. Some clips are fine and others not. It seems the clip which create the error consistently do so. And it is not just the RX6 plugin it seems; I have tried a few of the other clip effects including those included with MC and all give the error.

If I close the error window by clicking 'continue' I can then delete the effect and carry on editing. If I dont dlelte the effect the error warning re-occurs when I try to play the timeline.

I don't appear to be able to upload the screen grab!  The error message reads:-

An error has occurred:
Audio consumer duration differs from video edit duration by -6.000000 samples.
File: s:\coresw\ame\src\player\match.c, Line:6152

the options are:- 'Create report', 'Exit Application', 'Continue' and 'Debugger'

I'm on MC 2018.12

Any ideas?

I have an HP Z800 WS with FX 4800. I have not been able to upgrade MC further than 2018.5, since the required newer nVidia drivers cannot be installed.

Does anybody know whether it is possible to install a newer graphic card in the Z800, which will accept the required new driver?

Newb question here.

Im editing everything in uhd dnxhr these days.

I edit music videos that are all shot in slomo... The only way for me to multicam these slomo performances is to speed each one up, stack each clip on a sync timeline, then burn in timecode.

Before I would mixdown every clip. And add that to the group, but I wanted more of a batch process of every take/layer.

Now im subclipping every layer and doing a batch export of everything then consolidating those exports.

The Main Question:

Im exporting to dnxhr_lb..

But I noticed op1a seems a little quicker, or there were less things going on than media processesor.

So whats the difference between media processesor and op1a for dnxhr exports?

Does it do something different with audio?

Added feature request (since its related, i know theres a forum for that).  It would be cool if I could just highlight a bunch of sequences and it would just do a mixdown with audio of it.  Instead of me having to export these mixed down mxf's then linking and consolidating so I can group these originally slomo clips.    --- And yes I always make sure I backup my mixdowns since theyre not timecoded.

Ill add a screen shot later once this export of all my takes is done.

I have recently been getting this error popping up on a project I have been working on. 

All footage was shot on same camera and settings, yet it only seems to happen when playing certain interviews. The Rushes play fine but when its in a sequence with lots of layers and audio it pops up with the error 

exception legend audio communications error hardware underrun reason:klukaerr_underrun

Now all the other interviews with the same amount of layers and everything play fine but its just one or 2 of the interviews that do it!

I am running a Dell T7910 with 2x E5-2670 v3 processors and 64GB ram. Rushes are on shared storage running over network (speed is fine). The PC is connected to a Nitris DX feeding a Sony broadcast monitor over SDI

I have been scratching my head over this one for days and can't work it out!

Any Ideas?

Is there any way for pan and zoom to display the source it is expecting to find?  I thought it used to throw up a source path to the image it was expecting.  It doesn't seem to do this any more.  Am I making this all up?

Sorry lost the screengrab but it baulks installing over 3 time shift NTSC/PAL conversion audio plugins - says they dont exist.

I have clicked 'ignore' to get it installed but its a bit odd it cant find these files in its very own fresh install download?  These may be important when using NTSC 29.97 sources in a 25p PAL project...

Any ideas?

Avid is releasing Media Composer 2018.12.3 today, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 @ 12 PM EDT to address several issues.   

Location at Launch: Updates to Media Composer (subscription and perpetual), and Media Composer | Ultimate will be released at the same time, and will be made available from Avid Master Accounts (MyAvid), Avid Link, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).

What is fixed:  The issues Media Composer 2018.12.3 addresses are:

- Bug Number: MCCET-2892. In some instances, playback would stop after adding an Audio Mark IN/OUT. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-10686. Clicking on the checkbox for “Enable Mask Margin” or “Include Inactive Audio Tracks” in the AAF export dialog did not enable the options. 

- Bug Number: MCCET-2772. Clips may not have updated properly if you batch imported with Dynamic Relink enabled. 

- Bug Number: MCCET-2895. On some systems, the memory usage would increase until the editing application became sluggish.  

Limitations in this release:

- Bug Number: MCDEV-8641. (AMD Graphics). Systems with AMD graphics cards might display tearing when performing Full Screen playback. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-9460. Windows 7 systems with Nvidia Maxwell or Nvidia Pascal cards might experience playback issues that could result in “Play Consumer timeout” errors. Workaround: Select “Disable GPU Effects” in the Render Settings dialog box. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as XAVC-I 100. Workaround: Download the entire master clips. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-9011. Intermittently, when working with the XDCAM Nablet Plug-in, you might see “Failed to get the sample position from the AMA Plug-in” errors if you have waveforms enabled in the Timeline. 

- Bug Number: COGS-2560. While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See “Editing a Script” in the Help. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-5650. When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an “SFPlayConsumer Timeout” error if audio waveforms are enabled. Workaround: Turn off audio waveforms. 

- Bug Number: MCDEV-5385. MultiCam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported 
with this release.

Every so often when closing MC, it gives an error message that it has encountered a problem and has stopped working.   I'll force MC to close with Windows Task Manager.  I don't lose any saved work, but it's annoying and there seems to be no cause & effect pattern dictating when and why this happens.

Given that this plugin 'broke' sometime around 2018.7, (and both Avid and Blackmagic were being tight-lipped about offering a solution) I'd pretty much given up on it.

Blackmagic announced Fusion 16 last week, bringing it in line with the numbering system of Resolve. Counter to popular rumours about the demise of Fusion as a standalone product, it seems as if Blackmagic are committed (at least in the short term) of keeping it alive.

So this was good news for the future of the Avid plugin, but I couldn't find any recent documentation pertaining to it's installation/use from either Avid or Blackmagic.

Heading over to Blackmagic's download page, I can see Fusion 16 beta available for download, but no sign of the Fusion Connect plugin. In fact, the last release of the plugin was 9.02 in July 2018. However, I found this Blackmagic web page comparing Fusion 16 Studio and the Davinci Resolve version...

If you look at the bottom of the 'General' section, you'll see it says a big, fat YES for... 'Avid Connect Plug-in for using Fusion from the Media Composer timeline'... when you're running Fusion 16 Studio

So someone at Blackmagic still believes this works with Fusion 16. Unfortunately, there's no other documentation I've been able to find that supports this. In fact I downloaded Fusion 16 Beta Studio, but it comes with Fusion 9 manuals.

Can I be bothered to try it? The omens aren't good and I've got plenty of other things I could be doing with my spare time!

One interesting development is that (according to Blackmagic) if you have a dongle licence for Davinci Resolve Studio, it should now also run Fusion 16 Studio.

How can I adjust the audio level on all audio tracks with a single adjustment.

my sequence has 5 audio tracks. I have all 5 tracks where I want them relative to each other. There’s key frames everywhere. 

The problem is A3 was not recorded loud enough so A3 is maxed at +12 and the master is also maxed at +12. All other audio tracks have plenty of room to be increased but if I increase them then A3 will not be loud enough relative to the other four.

it feels like if the master could be increased to +20 it would fix my problem but the master is capped at +12.

my sequence has five Audio tracks A1-A5 but A2 was not well recorded and thus not loud enough.  Sound quality is great but the level of A2 is not high enough.  I have the master maxed at +12 and A2 maxed at +12.

I'd love to get your idea on how to solve this.  The balance is perfect between all five audio tracks so what i really need is some way to increase all five tracks a little...like if the master could go to +17 then everything would be just right i think.

Running Avid 2018.5. Trying to open title tool and it tells me to install New Blue Titler. Not interested in using that tool. Any thoughts about getting this open?

HI! I'm having this strange error using Autosync Waveform... I select all the audiuo and video clips and right click and slect Autosync, waveform. After thinking fod like 20 minutes I get an error message that says: Not enough adjacent material to create transition, and it aborts and the sequence is not created... I tried with different clips and different ausios and I always ge the same error.

I opened a case with Support, but they responded me to check the sequence for errors???? What sequence? there is no sequence yet when you do this... I still waiting for support to get back to me.

How I fix when the top bar of a bin is behind the the top part of the top bar of the program? You can’t grab it to move it or even close it.

I want to apply a DIFFERENT Frame Flex amount for different clips on the timeline but can't figure out how. I was able to do this in previous versions of MC. If i apply a FF from the clip in the bin, it automatically applys/ripples to ALL clips on the timeline. For example, I want to have one clip at 100% and another clip from the same shot at 50% zoom in, but if I select and apply 50% in the bin, it affects all clips on the timeline.

I am aware that I could use the Resize effect but I believe that affects the quality of the clip.

FYI, the video was shot and transcoded at 1080p and I am editing in a 720p timeline as it is going to web, not broadcast. I am using MC v. 2018.12.2

Duplicating the clip and applying a differnt FF from the original clip does not work as it still sees the original clip. Creating a Sublcip does not work either as no FF can be applied at all.

In previous versions of MC I was able to change the Flex Frame after having placed the clip on the Timeline and changing the FF in the bin did not affect clips already on the timeline.

Any ideas?

MC's lack of any easy and straighforward project archiving abilities has been a pet peeve of mine for a very long time.

This seems like such a basic tool for a professional level video editing software application to have.

To make matters worse, the 3rd party tools also seem to be fairly limited.

I've used MDV a lot in the past, but the software was last updated about 10 years ago. In the tech world, 10 years is a very, very long time and the OS and MC have changed considerably during the time. While it still seems to function, I don't trust it completely and I have had issues in the past where it appears to have skipped some media for some reason and some other odd behavior.

Media Mover was the last utility I used. This had some great features and I liked its online/offline workflow. A simple concept of collecting all the media into a folder with subfolders that I could then move off my fast disks and onto an archive drive. 

I built a new system, went to install Media Mover and was shocked that it would no longer install and the developer shuttered and abandoned the software with seemingly no avenue for licensed users to continue.

I've also been looking at Solo Parking from Marquis Broadcast, their standalone workstation version of their flagship Project Parking software. This a lot of functionality and would defintely fill my needs for archiving a project including MD5 checksum copying of media and a whole host of other features... But a license for Solo Parking costs nearly $650 USD. A lot of money to spend on one piece of ultility software.

I also haven't been able to try out the software for myself. I've been in contact with their sales team and have requested a license key for a trial run, but have yet to actually get one. Purchasing it also seems like a hassle. The sales team told me they no longer have online ordering for Solo Parking and they would send me an invoice with instructions for a wire transfer. Which seems a little outdated to me.

The cost maybe worth it to have piece of mind that my projects are archived completely.

Another is Archive-R from Ocean Systems, which seems to do a basic job of archiving media to a location. However, it looks dated and practically as old as MDV. It's also $495. Ocean Systems seems to mainly be in the business of digital forensics for law enforcement.

So are there other viable solutions for project archiving? Or is a 10 year old free utility that is no longer developed on PC and two very expensive pieces of software the only options? 

I know MC 2019 is right around the corner. They supposedly rebuilt it from the ground up. Would they have been smart enough to also develop an easy to use project archving feature into it? Seems to me like there is a great need for this sort of functionality.

I'm trying to export my timeline AAF with linked files from a timeline using AMA.  It sends up the eror message falsely claiming that I am trying to copy all media instead of linking.

This is with Media Composer 2018.12.3

Ideas?

My captions have inconsistent row spacing - seems dependent on how many 'tails' from the top row and if there are any caps in the bottom row.  If its yes to both then you get a big gap and a small gap if not:

SMALL

It looks ugly as its inconsistent and the box size jumps between cuts.  Does anyone know a workaround? 

Have had a good fiddle inc padding and 'row spacing' - they are just global adjustments though and the unpredictability in spacing continues. Happens without the box too.

I got an MP4 clip from a client.  I can play it on my system but iy won't import or AMA link.    I tried bringing it into Squeeze to transcode to a format MC will accept, but I get an error message that it is "Not a format supported by Squeeze."   I'm confused, because if it will play on my computer, I assumed my system had the appropriate codec?  I've looked online and there are a bunch of ads for converter software.   Wondering which one is the best for the price?
