How do I create audio reference tone? Years ago, I remember there was a drop down menu in the audio tool but it doesn't seem to be there anymore?
Avid bombed out so just relaunched expecting to lose 3-4 mins work. Instead I lost 45 mins. Checked the attic and there is a 45 min gap between saves in this instance - otherwise its the regular autosave every 3-4 mins as I have set. Click image to enlarge and see the Attic file created times...
Anyione any ideas why - im really a bit grumpy about it having lost 45 mins on a National Holiday!
I seem to recall that when I bought Media Composer 2018.x.x there was an offer or advertisement for a way for me to get royalty free music. I thought it was included or something I get through Avid somehow?
Did you buy Media Composer withing the last twelve months?
where can I get music that sounds like the sountrack for Gladiator or that kind of classical philharmonic genre...hopefully as good as the soundtrack of big screen hollywood productions?

I have recently been getting this error popping up on a project I have been working on.
All footage was shot on same camera and settings, yet it only seems to happen when playing certain interviews. The Rushes play fine but when its in a sequence with lots of layers and audio it pops up with the error
exception legend audio communications error hardware underrun reason:klukaerr_underrun
Now all the other interviews with the same amount of layers and everything play fine but its just one or 2 of the interviews that do it!
I am running a Dell T7910 with 2x E5-2670 v3 processors and 64GB ram. Rushes are on shared storage running over network (speed is fine). The PC is connected to a Nitris DX feeding a Sony broadcast monitor over SDI
I have been scratching my head over this one for days and can't work it out!

I've been getting an error when I try to render Audio Clip FX. but not every time.
I was using the RX6 voice de-noiser (which is fantastic) however on some clips on the same timeline I am getting this error. Some clips are fine and others not. It seems the clip which create the error consistently do so. And it is not just the RX6 plugin it seems; I have tried a few of the other clip effects including those included with MC and all give the error.
If I close the error window by clicking 'continue' I can then delete the effect and carry on editing. If I dont dlelte the effect the error warning re-occurs when I try to play the timeline.
I don't appear to be able to upload the screen grab! The error message reads:-
An error has occurred:
Audio consumer duration differs from video edit duration by -6.000000 samples.
File: s:\coresw\ame\src\player\match.c, Line:6152
the options are:- 'Create report', 'Exit Application', 'Continue' and 'Debugger'
I'm on MC 2018.12

I'm rolling out 2018.12.3 on multiple sites and in general the news is good. A lot of stability issues in combination with Interplay have disappeared. However one issue which has popped up on multiple sites is MC crashing when using the picture in picture effect, both on new and existing timelines. The error is the same as in this thread http://community.avid.com/forums/t/185358.aspx but while cases with Avid were opened no solution was posted as of yet in this thread.
I'm intending to also open a case but was wondering if others are seeing the same issue with picture in picture or with other effects in 2018.12.3 It could be that it is alpha channel related.
On some systems I had forgotten to upgrade the Nvidia drivers to 411.95 but I have not been able to determine if that plays a role with the crashes. Sometimes the effect can be applied without issue.

I'm receiving this message upon loading Media Composer 7.0.2 via Editshare. When I load it from the desktop icon it works fine, however via Editshare when it gets to 'Initializing Import/Export' the error appears. I can only click ok & it dumps me back to the desktop. This has only occured since I upgraded to 7.0.2 this morning. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Editshare to no avail, unistalled/reinstalled MC 7.0.2, and even downgraded again to 7, all with no success. The message still appears.
Anyone have any thoughts?

I am completing a full HD 1080p project that I am thinking of bumping to a 2K version. Can anyone provide any information on the best way to do this? I have a chance to show it in a theater but need at least a 2K master. Thanks!
I have a sequence where I cannot select any existings audio keyframe alone. If I select one, all turn on. I can turn all together off with shift click.
I have however a similar sequence where the audio keyframe selection works as it should. I have compared the timeline settings and find no difference. I have looked into the help file again and again and cannot find what is wrong.
Any idea what to do?
I want to share with everybody something that I just discovered. Call it a bug or call it a feature that doesn't perform as expected. Basically, in a short sequence where a lot of the clips have FrameFlex applied to them, Media Composer takes a serious performance hit. I have a 9-minute sequence in an HD 1080p project where the footage is pretty evenly split between DNx36 and NTSC 3:1 media. Almost all of the clips have FrameFlex applied to them and there is a major lag/delay that I experience when I edit clips into the timeline--that is, until you render the timeline.
I started experiencing this lag, and it was happening on other workstations as well, Mac and PC. So, I knew it wasn't the computer and it wasn't the storage (I sent the sequence off to somebody else who had another copy of the media and he experienced the same lag on an older version of Avid). I'm running 2018.12.3. He is running 8.9.5.
I narrowed down that it was FrameFlex causing the problem by first, creating a new sequence and cutting in footage. No lag initially. Then I started cutting in pieces of footage from my original sequence. I kept doing this until I had built out a test sequence that was longer than my original one. This sequence also had some Boris and Sapphire plugins in it. I ruled that out as a culprit as well. The lag/delay became particularly bad when the sequence got longer.
After rendering the entire sequence and the green "realtime" dots on the FrameFlex clips went away, everything behaved normally.
So, my recommendation to everyone is, if you can help it, AMA/Link to your footage, apply FrameFlex to them, then transcode the clips, baking in the formatting on transcode so that you don't run into these performance problems.

We have learned recently along with you folks that Sorenson has stopped selling Sorenson Squeeze.
As many of you know, the Sorenson Website states:
“We are no longer accepting orders for our Squeeze products and all Squeeze services will be disabled as of September 1, 2018”.
Avid product team is working to figure out what next steps we need to take with Media Composer and Sorenson Squeeze and I will get back to you in the coming weeks with information once they sort it all out.

Ran into this today but behavior is inconsistent. Project running on ISIS 5500.
Upon startup, project freezes at "Configuring Audio Waveform Cache" but not on all workstations.
Deleted MCState, Site Settings, Site Attributes, Audio Waveform Cache and reboot. no change. Considering rebuilding databases.
Can open it on Macs, can open it on only a few PCs.
Saw a Creative Cow posting about the same issue, but no specifics were included.
The bizarre behavior points to a corrupt project, IMHO, but the fact that we can open it without problem on some stations would seem to refute that as the issue.
Trying not to rebuild this large, complex project, but at a loss for what to do next.
I have a number of 1080p/59.94 files recorded during one session on a Blackmagic Mini as DNxHD 90. Some link as "DVxHD 90 (HD1080p)" and others as "Avid DNx Codec", both using the QuickTime plug-in. The DNxHD 90 linked files play back smoothly while the Avid DNx identified files stutter.
Why are they not all seen as one or the other. Can I change the designation of the link?
I'm using a Windows 7 PC running MC2018.10.
Wondering if Avid will integrate Blackmagic's Raw? They've released the SDK and it would be great to have this within Avid... 🙂

Avid is releasing Media Composer 2018.12.3 today, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 @ 12 PM EDT to address several issues.
Location at Launch: Updates to Media Composer (subscription and perpetual), and Media Composer | Ultimate will be released at the same time, and will be made available from Avid Master Accounts (MyAvid), Avid Link, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).
What is fixed: The issues Media Composer 2018.12.3 addresses are:
- Bug Number: MCCET-2892. In some instances, playback would stop after adding an Audio Mark IN/OUT.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-10686. Clicking on the checkbox for “Enable Mask Margin” or “Include Inactive Audio Tracks” in the AAF export dialog did not enable the options.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2772. Clips may not have updated properly if you batch imported with Dynamic Relink enabled.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2895. On some systems, the memory usage would increase until the editing application became sluggish.
Limitations in this release:
- Bug Number: MCDEV-8641. (AMD Graphics). Systems with AMD graphics cards might display tearing when performing Full Screen playback.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9460. Windows 7 systems with Nvidia Maxwell or Nvidia Pascal cards might experience playback issues that could result in “Play Consumer timeout” errors. Workaround: Select “Disable GPU Effects” in the Render Settings dialog box.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as XAVC-I 100. Workaround: Download the entire master clips.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9011. Intermittently, when working with the XDCAM Nablet Plug-in, you might see “Failed to get the sample position from the AMA Plug-in” errors if you have waveforms enabled in the Timeline.
- Bug Number: COGS-2560. While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See “Editing a Script” in the Help.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5650. When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an “SFPlayConsumer Timeout” error if audio waveforms are enabled. Workaround: Turn off audio waveforms.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5385. MultiCam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported
with this release.

How to obtain Media Composer 2018.12.3 Update: Listed below are the ways to obtain the new software.
Has Avid ever looked at updating the bin printing ability of the Media Composer. I have a client who prefers to recieve PDFs of bins in frame view so he can see stills of the clips in the bin. However whenever you print a bin of large clips they will print over the edge of the pages and overtop of the header and footer infrormation. You can manually setup the spacing but it's very time consuming. It will also print off the end of the page in text mode if more columns are open than the page can handle. Seems like it would be simple enough to do page breaks and continue on the next page like every other program I've ever used does.
I've been having this issue for years and always though they would address it. Have options to print the bins and thier various information and have it work like a standard documents that wraps or resize to correctly fit the page size selected would be the ideal setup. Just saying....
Does anyone know how to formally suggest this as an issue they need to address?

I have been asked by the effects department to provide them with a QT of the film with a timecode burnt in that counts the frames of each shot, starting with 1 after each edit in the sequence and then counts up to whatever frame number until the next edit.
In the Timecode Burn-In effect I only found ways to display the total amount of frames or a source frame count, but couldn't bring the effect to count from 1 to xyz staring with each shot.
Has somebody done this?
