Pixelated video in XDCAM MXF OP1a exports

We're having an issue exporting a mixed down sequence of DNx145. When exported as an XDCAM MXFOp1a we are finding pixelated video on the upper third of the screen. The timeline plays back the video crystal clear in AVID and only when exported do we see this happen. I've tried exporting the sequence on multiple workstations and various Avid versions (8.9, 8.91, 8.72)

One thing I did try and do is output to Quicktime Movie and use Same as Source settings....the video exported crystal clear but then we did not have the individual audio stems.

No audio playback with Panasonic AVCHD files linked or import

I am experiencing no audio playback on Panasonic AVCHD files linked or imported(*everything has been playing well till the MC update from the old appman to the now new Avid Link). I believe it's got something to do with AC3 codec, but in the new appman (Avid link, with MC 2018.12.1), I do not see anywhere to install the AC3 codec.

In my project, when I import or link mp3, it plays ok, files from the Sony A7r also playback ok(audio/video), it's only my Panasonic AVCHD that has no audio playback(video playback ok) Any help appreciated

Help - "ERROR_OTHER"

Hi folks,

Media Composer 3.0 worked fine last week.  Today, I get "ERROR_OTHER" on launch.  Huh!?  It happens at the "Initializing Media Streams Manager" phase.  Only option it gives me is to cancel out and the whole thing quits instantly - do not pass "Go," do not collect $200.

i.e. I can't even get to the project select dialog, therefore I can't check the console.   Any way to look up the console logs without launching MC?

I have made no changes to the system since the last time I launched Media Composer other than automatic Norton virus definition updates.

Thought it might be a page file issue with the boot drive filling up with junk, but I freed up over 7GB free on the program drive (over 10% of the available drive space).  Also tried launching with and without media drives mounted.  Still no worky.

Please don't tell me I need to reinstall.  Sad

Any wisdom?  What does "ERROR_OTHER" mean and how can I fix it?

Alienware 3.4GHz P4 notebook (basically a full-power single core desktop processor wrapped in a notebook package - at the time it came out it was Avid qualified)
QuadroFX 1400 video card
3GB RAM
60 GB boot drive
Media attached via FW 400 (FW 800 is not an option)
WinXP Pro SP 2
MC 3.0 - still on the dongle

Video to BPM (audio) sync

Hello,

I'm a Sony Vegas Pro user and I want to switch to Media Composer.
I'm doing audio/video mixes, on Vegas I used to set the projects BPM and put the timeline in beats rather than frames. With snapping set to beats and turned on I could easily sync video to the beats of the song and work like on any audio editor (but with video included).

I'm making VJ style mixes so this "snap to beats" feature is very important to me.

Is there anything like that in Media Composer?
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I'm totaly new to MC.

Due to the discontinuation of Sorenson Squeeze by Sorenson, Avid can no longer offer Sorenson Squeeze either for purchase or as part of a Media Composer | Subscription or Production Pack bundle.

Customers who have purchased Sorenson Squeeze can continue to use it while the license is valid.

Customers who have purchased the Production Pack can continue to use Sorenson Squeeze while the license is still valid. They will not receive any software updates to Squeeze, however, and cannot receive support from Avid on issues related to Squeeze.

Customers who have a Media Composer subscription that includes Sorenson Squeeze can continue to use it until January 31st, or the next time they renew their subscription in 2019, whichever comes first, at which time it will be disabled (will cease to run) and will be removed from their Avid Master Accounts.

Why is this happening?

Earlier this year, Sorenson Media announced that Squeeze was no longer part of their portfolio and ceased all licensing, development and support of that product line. Avid is therefore no longer able to sell or support the product.

Can I still get help with issues?

Customers who require support for Squeeze should refer to the Sorenson Media website. Avid cannot provide any support for issues related to Squeeze.

When will I stop being able to use Squeeze as part of my Media Composer subscription?

Sorenson Squeeze installers will be removed from accounts on January 31st. Starting January 1st, the next time a subscription license is reactivated – either as part of an annual renewal, a monthly payment, or a monthly “call home,” – Squeeze will stop running as part of a subscription license.

What about an alternative software solution?

Avid will not be replacing Squeeze with an alternative software option.

Re-editing Color Effect with Keyframes

Media Composer's Color Effect (CE) is keyframeable if one also opens the Effect Editor. However, I am unable to re-edit such an effect.  I only can open the Effect Editor again, but not the CE. Both are needed to re-edit.

Old Software v2.8.3 on an Windows XP PC

I recently brought my old editing system back from the dead. All of the previous tools function as they did over 10 years ago on the system. The issue, besides an obvous new system and software upgrade, is that I am not able to play the files when exported out of this old system Does anyone know of any patch or download that can fix the problem? The exported Quicktime file can only be played using VLC Player and it jumps around. There must be a codec update that I am missing, but I do not know what can be installed on such an old XP based PC. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

MC7 I erased Media Folder, kept RAW footage/Project Settings NOW OFFLINE Sequences

But, now timeline clips show OFFLINE ! Raw footage still in original folders, Project and its BINs intact complete with footage showing in each bin thenWHY does the timeline for seqeunces show OFFLINE ? I tried relinking to no avail.

 

I thought erasing MEDIA FOLDER would just erase the many dissolves and transposing and be left with original files.

FrameFlex in multicam mode

Good day, I have one qestion using FrameFlex option in multicam mode. I have two files with adjusted FrameFlex. I group this files by IN point and get group clip, but after inserting this clip on timeline I do not see FrameFlex icon on the clip and can't apply FrameFlex option to group clip - "Source settings" is inactive. Although FrameFlex settings is applied to clips and I see it in group clip, I can't adjust it and I need adjust FrameFlex individually for each clip on timeline, created during multicam editing. Can I do this?

problem group transcoding XAVC S clips

 I work with F5 XAVC Files and A7RII XAVC S files all the time mostly 23.978 and have not had a problem linking and transcoding them up until today.  I linked to some new A7RII files today that I shot yesterday, the only difference was these where shot UHD 29.97.  Avid MC 2018.3.5 would link but in a group transcode Avid would only transcode 1 or 2 files and then crash.  So I decided to finally purchased and installed the NABLET XAVC S plug-in and got the same problem.  I contacted support at nablet and they said;

Sounds like a problem of the Avid version you used, since it also crashes when you linked the files with the Avid own internal plugin.
But we will try to reproduce the case with the same MC version and have a look whether anything can be done.
Also just see the AVCHD plugin mentioned in the console error messages. Please check the A7 volumes whether they have a subfolder AVCHD. If so remove it. Some Avid MC versions have issues when this folder is present, but not used.


I can't find the A7 Volume.

.avb ID structure

Can anyone share the way .avb ID is structured? I have isolated the byte sequence in .avb files that make Avid bins unique. I can create new bins with unique IDs outside of Media Composer by writing random values to these bytes. But I have no clue how this ID is structured, if it's trully random or if there is some order to it.

To make it a bit more clear--each Avid bin has a unique ID. This is what prevents you from opening the attic bin and the parent bin at the same time. The bins may have different file names but if the ID is the same they are considered to be the same bin by Media Composer. This logic works well for attic retreaval in a way. But I'm writing automation tools and want to avoid creating invalid IDs.

Avid Media Composer pc Build (GPU)

Hello, I am thinking to make a new pc build for Avid Media Composer.

I was looking to a system based on the i9 9900k platform, a solid z390 mobo with thunderbolt 3, 1tb of nvme storage and 32 gb of ddr4 3200mhz ram. I have a big doubt about the gpu side.

I really can't figure out if I have to take a quadro p4000 for example, I was undecided between the rtx 2080 and the new radeon 7 because of the 16 gb hbm memory, then I read about avid supporting only the pro gpu like quadro or amd radeon pro.

Does Media Composer support some kind of gpu acceleration for the consumer cards?If it doesn't and I get a quadro the difference in performace will be worth the extra money?

Audio keyframes *only* selecting all - going bonkers, please help

Has something changed in a recent MC version? Suddenly when I try to move an individual audio keyframe it just moves all the keyframes in that clip. I can't select just one keyframe. Any time I try it just selects all of them.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Is there some bizarre setting that has switched itself on?

Can't delete media

I'm running 2018.12 on Win 10.  I've recently begun to have problems getting rid of media files.  We use a Promax shared storage system for media and I have some media space on my own system.  When I try and remove media that's on the shared system I get a message that it's locked.  Sometimes.  Some clips delete as normal but most are locked.  I can't see any difference between them.  I've deleted the media file databases and that made no difference.  Interestingly, I just found out that I can consolidate the clips on the shared drive onto my internal drive and select "Delete original media files when done" in the Consolidate window and they seem to be deleted that way.  Any ideas?

Windows updated itself to version 1809 when I wasn't looking and now loads of things are broken - Avid being one of them!

The error messages start during the boot-up routine when Avid Link tries to start. There is a whole series of the same type of message reporting that:-

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FILENAME.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error Try installing the program again using the installlation media or contact software vendor. Error status 0xc000012f

I was getting similar errors for MS Office but have fixed with a re-installation, but I have tried re-installing MC and still get this error.

This is not my main edit machine, so it is not holding me up. it is an old-ish license MC 2018.11 on a former edit workstation nw relegated to occasional preview and legacy stuff. nevertheless still annoying the Windows update seems to have comprehensively screwed it up.

Anyone else?

My user settings won't save...

Hey gang,

For the past few days, my export, bin, and work space settings revert back to what I made in the first few hours of haveing my new settings.  I even took screen grabs of my export settings, and eported my user settings before I left last night.  And when I came in today, they reverted back to my first setup.  The strange thing is even when I imported the setting I exported before I left, those are not updated with my new settings.  How can I export my settings and those not be updated?

It seems to be that when I shut my system down, my settings revert to the initial setup. Of course I'm in the middle of a massive copy so I can't test that, but have any of you heard of this?  I've rebuilt my settings more in the past 4 days than in the past 4 years.  I can't start every shift doing this.  Haha.

Audio hardware option.

Hi! I have a PC with the latest version of MC and Kone 3G card. The audio though is connected via the computer audio jack and not the Kona because of the distance goes via an extender. When I enable the video output on te Kona, the audio algo goes out on the Kona, it seems to be no way to make the Audio go out on the PC audio and the video on the Kona? Is there a way to do this?

hi, does anyone know how to do a Quick transition with different dur on audio and video eg. 6frm on video and 25 frm on audio in one go?  

ie not having to deselect tracks and change dur etc..... mc8
