Hi all:
I'm an Avid editor since '95. My reseller-built Core 2 Duo system finally bit the dust and I figure/hope I can homebuild an nice little system.
I am curious if anyone might have input on the components listed below as some of them are new and not yet "supported" but may work, especially the graphics card, motherboard and chipset.
I edit both long and short form projects mainly in 1080, but would like to edit 4K should a project come my way. I am also considering a 4K camera for my own projects and would like to if not edit, at least finish in 4K, though it is a new workflow for me. Just want to keep my options open.
As well, Squeeze outputs (Vimeo, YT, transcodes etc) were painfully slow on my old system, so I am assuming that will improve with any of the processors, but which is best?? Also, I run Adobe Suite and would like to run Blackmagic Resolve, so that's a factor as well.
FYI I did try a search on MC with x99 et al, but there seemed to be very little info available and thus I am posting here hoping for some input.
So here's what I'm thinking:
Build...
MOBO:
This motherboard is the only one that accepts Xeon processors that I am aware of in this price range. Has USB 3.1.

GRAPHICS:
Seems this is their newest board. Much higher specs than the current recommended benchmark (but old) k4200 but also relatively or perhaps wholly untested in an avid environment. about the same price as the K4200 PNY.

PROCESSOR:
This is the big question. I'm leaning towards the Xeon because it's an eight core though a little bit slower than the 5960X per core. But is also considerably cheaper and a Xeon. It seems like it would be a better spec'd than the 5930. thoughts?

Or

RAM:
this is also a big question. I'm not sure what speed I should get or what brand. My understanding is the Xeon uses a slower speed, so no point going above a certain threshold. But I've also read that ram speed doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. Confused! Thinking 32GB RAM. Four sticks or two? Do I need ECC if going Xeon?? Any benefit??
RAID:
not sure what to do here. Is there a raid controller on the motherboard? do I need a card? Not sure. I'm thinking of running a four drive raid 0 and then backing that up daily to Symantec Ghost drive. What are people doing these days for video storage given 1080P playback and likely 4K?
CASE:
I'm looking for a silent or close to silent case (rather than the current jet airplane I currently have) and was thinking of this. Perhaps you know of a better one.

POWER:
Again not too sure about this is this enough power, too much power, the best/most reliable brand?

Thinking something like this but I'm not sure about the best size or brand. Quiet is important.

OS:

BUT is Win 7 preferable? This is what I am currently running and it is rock solid.
I look forward to your thoughts and input. Am I my missing anything?
Thanks!!
