Assertion Failed: FALSE error that I can't get around

Hi all,

I opened up a fairly old project to do some updates. It worked fine for a couple of days. Now suddenly I'm getting an Assertion failed: FALSE error, with an associated message about "File:..\..\src\Consumers\AVX2support\ACFUserParam.cpp, Line: 924."

This happens when I try to save the project after making changes. I get the error and have to end the program. None of my edits are saved.

I searched the forums and found some old suggestions. So far I've trashed the media databases in each media folder and let them rebuild. No dice. I've tried renaming the AvidMediaFiles folder to take everything offline (except linked media). Still can't save.

I started a new project, created a blank sequence and tried opening up the sequence bin from the other project to copy my sequence into a new one. That still crashes.

I created a new user. I rolled back to Media Composer 8.6.5 thinking that maybe 8.7 was the problem.

I don't know what else to try. My client is waiting for this and I can't get the error to go away.

Other projects seem to work fine.

I know my system is not on the approved list but it's been working fine for years.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Media Composer 'shot' column bin meta data missing?

I am editing a film and scene, shot, take columns ares howing just not 'shot'? When I create a new custom column called shot it shows as shot1? I looked at the custom meta data columns tha tI can add but no where can find shot?

8.7 upgrade - can not DL dongle updater file

After "click download to get dongle updater file" I get "There has been an error. We are working quickly to fix it... try again later" etc. Meanwhile no Avid. No worky. Sucks. Marianna?

Guru's,

In the everlasting graphic card discussions I have a question. Has anyone ever done a real world MC performance comparison test of the supported quadro cards in a certified workstation (or DIY system) while also using IO from Avid AJA or Blackmagic?

If you go through the list of supported configurations one sees that on the software only systems the K6x0 cards are supported but not on the systems also using IO. The question is why?

I'm aware of the 2G memory need for UHD/4K in resolve and FSP seems also to benefit.

(Ach Larry... the whitepaper you once requested...)

AllDrives console command problem

Hello everybody, I hope that someone can help me with my Avid MC 8.4.1. problem.

By giving commands in the console "AllDrives 1" Avid recognizes network drives as "true media drives". In order to obtain that function I need to restart Avid.

By giving command "AllDrives 2", so that Avid would not see network drives (only local) while the Avid restarting, it  freezes on "Initializing Media Streams Manager". After this, it takes 2-3 hours to start again. Then by typing the command "AllDrives 1" and restarting, everything works normally.

Matrox Mini Replacement

My Matrox Mini just died.  I'm looking for an inexpensive replacement to use with MC on my Z800.   I don't need I/O, just monitoring on a TV via HDMI (the way my Matrox Mini was set up.)   Any suggestions?

Laptop Screen Resolution MC8.7.2

Hi. I've just invested in a Lenovo P50 Avid spec laptop. The native screen resolution for the laptop is 3840 x 2160 which is 4K.

Avid media composer 8.7.2 is unusable at this screen resolution, with icons and fonts too small and jumbled to read. I can downscale the laptop screen resolution to 1080 x 1920 to use Media Composer without these issues...

Is Avid going to make MC work with higher resolution screens? Is there a compromise display setting that I'm missing? Any help much appreciated.

Can You Upgrade Transcode Quality During Ongoing Edit?

Hi,

I'm mid-4K edit and suddenly realised a selection of shots from a given camera were trancoded as DNXHR LB, wheras all the other footage is DNXHR HQ.

Is there a way to simply upgrade those clips to HQ, thereby automatically replacing the existing lo-res shots in the edit with the correct resolution? 

I'd hate to have to go through the edit individually matching and replacing shots...

Importing tapeless media with ALE file

I am having problems trying to import video to Media Composer from an ALE file if the video is not from a tape. The ALE file is built by hand so the data section has the mininum number of columns, just the Name, Tracks, Start and End. I am able to import the ALE into a bin, but when I try to relink an error pops up saying 'No clips were relinked.'

I can follow the same process with a video that originated from tape and it works fine.

I'm guessing I have the wrong entry in the ALE file for TAPE? I've tried using the filename, clip name, package name, etc. without any luck. I've also tried leaving out the TAPE entry but adding a column to the data section titled 'Source File' with the same result. Here's what my ALE file looks like:

Can I install all older MC versions without support plan?

When the support runs out, can I still download and install all MC versions that came out until the date when support ran out?

I wouldn´t want to install newer versions that came out after the support ended, but are there any restrictions on downloading and installing older versions? Do I have full access to download center etc?

Can't drag a clip or sequence to the source or recorder monitor

When I double-click the clips load in the source monitor and the sequences in the record monitor but when i try to drag them, I'm not allowed ( an Icon of a circle with a line thru it appears)

I very often need to load sequences into my source monitor to edit into my timeline so this is really annoying.

I've tried using different users different projects but to no avail.

Somethimes it clears up when I exit the program and restart it.

finding a clip

Hi,

Is it possible to work backwards to find a clip?  I have a clip in my bin from a few years ago. I would like to find the original source, drive, bin, location, etc.  It was orinially imported directly from the camera so it has a title like 47G1567. I have no idea how to trace down the original source so that I can use a longer portion of the clip.

How to combine Frameflex reframing and shot stabilization ?

In a 1080p project, I have some UHD clips, where frameflex is used to reframe the shots w/o resolution loss.

I have one of these shots that requires stabilization...Is there a way to perform stabilization (Avid Region Stabilize or BCC Optical Stabilizer) logically before the frameflex reframing ? This in order to avoid the (slightly destructive) HD rescaling of the stabilizer, while there is ample resolution available in the UHD shot...

It seems that the frameflex effect has to be the first effect, before any stab. effect.

Is there perhaps a way to use the stabilizer effect analysis data to feed the frameflex position ?

Any thoughts ? How to accomplish this w/o a roundtrip to a UHD project just for that small offending shot ?

Exception: Sequence refers to non-existent track in clip

I have been using this workflow without a problem until now. MC is giving this message: Exception: Sequence refers to non-existnt track in clip. Please turn off monitoring and re-edit references to the following clip. You may then re-enable monitoring., clip 1012TC01, missinfTrack:A1

Well, I have been bringing in DVCPro from AVCHD using the mainconcept program from panasonic. Once I do the transcode, and in MC, I go to File - Link to AMA file(then I go to the folder with the video and select the video), then I repeat the process and select the associated audio(normally there are 2 audio files linked with the video, I select all at one time)

Then MC brings them in without a problem, and in my sequence, I just drag the clip to the timeline, and everything has worked in the past. Now in my current project, after following the above process, and tried to drag the AMA clip to the timeline, I received the above message. How do I go about resolving this issue (*I have used this workflow before where when I drag the clip, V1,A1,A2 are all filled with the AMA clip)

FrameFlex in multicam mode

Good day, I have one qestion using FrameFlex option in multicam mode. I have two files with adjusted FrameFlex. I group this files by IN point and get group clip, but after inserting this clip on timeline I do not see FrameFlex icon on the clip and can't apply FrameFlex option to group clip - "Source settings" is inactive. Although FrameFlex settings is applied to clips and I see it in group clip, I can't adjust it and I need adjust FrameFlex individually for each clip on timeline, created during multicam editing. Can I do this?

Qualified PC Systems for Media Composer 8.7.x

Hi.

 

Can I get some clarification please.

On the latest qualified PC systems for MC 8.7.x, the HP Z840s are stated as needing to be 2.3Ghz or higher, with the V4 intel processor, but i thought the 2.3Ghz was for the V3 processor and the new V4 processor was 2/1Ghz or higher.

 

Can anyone confirm that the qualified PC systems for MC 8.7.x is correct or incorrect.

Uninstalling a plugin that isn't there?

Have had to roll back from 8.7.2 due to compatibility issues with older timelines.  

I think I need to install the Sony AMA plugin on 8.6.5 to make sure XAVC-L works - well I had to on 8.5.3 anyway.  It wont let me install it - even though I can not see any Sony plugin in my programs/uninstall menu.  Any ideas guys?  Thanks

Decklink mini monitor sluggish responsiveness

Hi all, I'm running Media Composer 8.4.4 with a decklink mini monitor and Blackmagic Desktop Video driver version 10.5.4

 

AVID seems to be very sluggish in this configuration, especially when entering trim mode, using trim mode with J-K-L keys, or dragging edits manually with the mouse. When I turn off the hardware video output, performance returns to normal, so it seems pretty clear that the decklink is the culprit.

 

I'm wondering if anyone has noticed this problem too, or has had success with a different driver version. I've played briefly with some other drivers versions, but many seem to crash Avid outright.

Avid Confusing Correct nVidia Driver for MC8.7

Avid gives confusing instructions (to me at least) regarding installation of correct nVidia video card driver for MC8.7.  Here is history of my situation.

Avid licensing/installation support helpfully took control of my ZBook 15 and installed MC8.7 for me (I do this rarely and can make mistakes).  My OS is WIN 7 Pro 64 bit.

Then I found readme to install correct QT version (7.7.9) and nVidia driver (I have K2100M on Z Book).

Readme "compatibility chart" says for MC8.7 install nVidia driver 353.82 and I know MC is very picky about drivers/settings for video card (my current nVidia driver is 347.52 I used with MC7). 

Next readme gives instructions to "install the nVidia display driver:" as follows;

1. Navigate to Program Files\Avid\Utilities\nVidia and double click folder for your OS (WIN7 Pro 64 bit in my case).

2. Double click the file for the applicable driver.  In my case when I followed step 1 it opened a folder which was titled Display Driver v 362.13--different one from compatibility guide recommended 353.82.   I am not good at installing drivers and so forth so I stopped at that point before continuing with installation.

So questions are: (1) should I continue with installing driver 362.13 (maybe that is more current version to use with MC8.7 which was included in utilities folder???;  or (2) do I need to go somewhere (where??) to find and install driver 353.82; (3) or, maybe if I just doubleclick on folder labelled Display Driver v 362.13 does it actually install 353.82

I did call installation support to try to see if they installed correct utilities folder but person said they don't handle that sort of issue.
