SubCap effect turns black

$

When I opened a project with captions made with Subcap effect, some lines randomly are black, the color of the letters is missing or black (tweaking has no effect), only the outline and shadow are there. As shown in the pic, sometimes one line is good and the other black, can be the upper or lower, sometimes both are black or both are good aso. Any clues? (It's Czech language, by the way)

MC 8.7 whith my dual screen configuration problem

Good day! Avid, thanks for this release!

しかし・・

I use some non-standard configuration of two monitors.

1st - 3840-2160

2nd - 2560-1440

After upgrading to 8.7, MediaComposer window no longer be stretched to a second monitor.

I understand that the reason is different resolution screens, but the previous version there were no problems.

Are there any ways (except for decreasing the resolution on the first monitor and the second purchase 4K)) to resolve the situation.

All monitors connect to Nvidia GTX-750Ti via DisplayPort(4K)  & DVI(2.5K) drivers 368.81

Thanks for any help!

Can MC scale 4K 4:2:0 8-bit -> HD 4:4:4 10-bit?

This cropped up when looking at the various workflows that can be used for GH4 4K footage. I read this about the AG-DVX200:

"Increased Color Resolution And Bit Depth: One excellent benefit of downconverting UHD/4K footage to 1080 HD in post is that you can realize an increase in proportional color resolution and a notable increase in bit depth. The AG-DVX200 records 4K or UHD footage at 8 bits per pixel and utilizes 4:2:0 color sampling. After downconversion, the resulting footage has 10 bits per pixel and 4:4:4 color sampling! Yes, you can convert 3840x2160 8-bit 4:2:0 recorded footage into 1920x1080 10-bit 4:4:4 footage in post... When downconverting UHD/4K footage to 1080p HD, you also get the benefit of converting 8-bit pixel depth into 10-bit pixel depth! Since each 2x2 block of UHD/4K pixels will be summed together to create a single 1x1 pixel in 1080p HD, the individual pixel values and gradations from the source footage can be retained in the downconverted footage." ['The Benefits of Shooting in 4K' by Barry Green]

Is this dependent upon the scaler you use? What does FrameFlex do with 4K footage that needs to be scaled to HD?

what's your workflow prepping for cinema dcp?

Hello all,

Whenever I drag an RT effect from Boris titler to a clip in my timeline the video in my composer window disappears & I cannot see the clip /video when I launch the Boris interface.

For example, I wish to create a title for my video  i launch the effects pallete & drag the boris rt effect directly to a clip in my timeline & my video disappears from the composer window & will not return until I undo add effect.

I have seen this technique used in plenty of tutorial videos but I cannot get it to work for me.  I am sure it is merely a setting I am overlooking.

What gives? This is driving me mad.

Thanks in advance for any assist.

Media Composer and Pro Tools audio mixes not matching

$

Hello Everyone!

I could not take it anymore. I had upgraded to Windows 10 but my workstation started developing problems and throwing errors and BSODs more and more. I put Windows 7 Pro back on two nights ago. Here's what I got...

I'm cutting a trailer and I'm passing over the audio to Pro Tools 12 via .aaf. The transfer is fine and after mixing it the bounced file comes in way too hot. I have checked my levels in Pro Tools and everything is clear and my Master level is bouncy and most of the time in the greenish-yellow region. There seems to be a problem with media composer - that's why I posted this here and not in the Pro Tools forums. Now, here's how I have it configured.

The BlackMagic is the system main audio and the ProFire is the secondary. Pro Tools runs through the ProFire while Media Composer goes through the BlackMagic. The BlackMagic runs into two channels on the ProFire whereas the HS80Ms are getting signal from the ProFire. The ProFire is the audio center-piece of my whole rig.

So, I built the timeline in media composer and then exported the .aaf for Pro Tools mixing. I bounced to disk and imported the files into Media Composer.

The audio is blown out. The wave patterns are solid even when stretched out. The audio sounds intelligible but slightly distorted.

Is there some settings I need to be matching between these components that insures they work together? Like, is there a calibration procedure that I need to observe between the audio cards and software to make them have cohesive audio output?

Exception: Structured Exception, ExceptionCode: 3221225477, ExceptionString: Access_Violation

I'm receiving this message upon loading Media Composer 7.0.2 via Editshare. When I load it from the desktop icon it works fine, however via Editshare when it gets to 'Initializing Import/Export' the error appears. I can only click ok & it dumps me back to the desktop. This has only occured since I upgraded to 7.0.2 this morning. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Editshare to no avail, unistalled/reinstalled MC 7.0.2, and even downgraded again to 7, all with no success. The message still appears.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks

Media Composer 8.7.2 Now Available (16 Jan 2017)

We are pleased to announce the release of Media Composer v8.7.2.

Location:  Media Composer v8.7.2 is available from My Avid Master Accounts, Application Manager, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required) today, January 16th, 2017.  Download Center is available and Appman and My Avid happening shortly.

Changed in 8.7.2:

- Extending an Edit - This release includes a change on how extending a trim works.

- Safe Area/Title - An additional option has been added to the Safe Area/Title Grid Settings.

- Field Swap - The Field Swap Image effect has been added to the Image effect options.

- Avid Generic Plug-in - Avid is currently working to remove dependencies on QuickTime libraries which are no longer supported by Apple. See the ReadMe for our first step.

Fixed in v8.7.2:

 - You might have received a “PMM_INSUFFICIENT_MEDIA” error when extending a trim. Along with this fix, there is a change in the procedure for performing an Extend trim. See “Extending an Edit” on page 1 of the ReadMe.

-  You might have received an “Exception caught in APlayer” error when exporting a sequence containing linked XAVC and 9 tracks of audio.

-  You might have received an “assertion failed” error when cutting and pasting onto an Audio dissolve.

-  After selecting Commit Multicam Edits on a sequence, the sequence still contained references to Group clips.

-  Intermittently, sequences containing Pan&Zoom effects become corrupt.

-  The total duration of items selected in a bin did not provide an accurate duration in the Bin Info window if the items exceeded 24 hours.

-  Handles tags were missing from XML output in the List Tool.

-  The Color tag was empty for Markers/Locators in the List Tool.

-  Line endings appeared as LF in XML output in the List Tool instead of CR. The line endings now appear as CR in the output.

-  In some instances, playing back XDCAM HD 50 media that was created in an earlier version of the editing application, was distorted.

-  Feature request: Convert and Skip option is missing when transcoding.

-  And a bunch more fixes……..

Important Notes:

1.  Media Composer 8.7.2 and above requires an Interplay 3.7 client to work with Interplay

2.  MC v8.7.2 now allows for matchframing matte keys and title media. However, this will only apply to matte keys and titles placed into timelines in v8.7 and higher.  Old titles and keys will not matchframe back (the metadata simply isn’t there in your sequences). You can edit old titles in the timeline (or Recreate Titles) and those should matchback, but the only way to matchback old matte keys is to recut them into a sequence in v8.7 or higher.

ReadMe:  The v8.7.2 ReadMe is being posted to the Knowledge Base “ Media Composer 8.x Documentation “ page now.

"Avid Editor has stopped working" concern: driver issue??

$

Three questions: (1)Recently installed MC8.6 and still just playing around with it (learning from MC7). Sometimes when I launch MC I get warning "Avid Editor has stopped working--Windows will try to find solution." Windows does its thing, can't find anything and shuts down MC. Sometimes when I get this problem I just hit "Cancel" Windows troubleshooting since it never finds anything and MC shuts down.  In both cases I try launching MC right away and so far it has launched fine the second time and works for short experiments I am doing. I can live with this inconvenience right now, but once I start doing real projects I am concerned I might get the "Avid Editor has stopped working" in middle of project and MC will shut down which will be more of an issue to me.

Can I be assured that once MC successfully launches that it will then keep running ok in this situation (won't shut down in middle of project)??

Second question: As feedback to Avid technical team and others, I should mention that when I installed MC8.7 the "configuration" documentation said to be sure and use Nvidia driver 353.82.  However, other documentation said to navigate to Utilities folder in Avid program and install driver in Nvidia folder--that driver is 362.13.  RalphC was helpful and relayed back that Avid technical team said "always install driver that comes with MC download" or in this case driver 362.13 instead of 353.82.  Right away after installing 362.13 I posted that "initial" indications were that 362.13 worked fine. Now I wonder if that driver has a slight glitch in it causing my problem??

Third Question: My 27 inch monitor works fine with VGA output from ZBook but very poor picture when I try HDMI connection to monitor from ZBook--recognizing complexity of all the interactions could this be a driver issue?

My OS is Win7 Pro 64 bit and installed on HP Zbook15 (older model) with Nvidia K2100M graphics.

AMA link problems in 8.6.1 with Canon C300 footage

Hi there, I'm new here, so hopefully I'm putting this in the right place. I currently run 2 pretty new avid setups, one laptop MC 8.5.3, and one desktop MC 8.6.1 I've been using the laptop without problem for about 6 months, the desktop is brand new. Ive had no problem using the AMA link feature to link to footage shot on our Canon C300. It always links fine as: AVC High 422 Intra (1080P) and is immediately viewable in the source monitor. I just consolidate it to a drive and everything is fine.

The new desktop machine however seems to link differently. First it's a slightly different interface called called 'Source Browser' instead of 'Link to media' and you can't seem to be able to select what sort of vision you're hoping to link to eg. Quicktime/Canon etc... But anyway, you can see the Canon folder filled with the footage and when you 'Link' it succesfully fills your source bin with all of the right clips, fine so far except that unlike the laptop, it wants to link them in as AVC Intra 100 (1080i), and when you throw them in the source monitor you get a black screen and a: CDCIReader_UNKNOWN_COMPRESSION_TYPE error message.

As far as I can tell, both machines have the same AMA plugins, and link settings, and both project formats are 1080i/50

I have screen grabs of the process if that helps, but I can't work out how to attach them to this post

I just upgraded from MC 7 to MC 8.6.1   Upon start up, I get this message: "The following AMA Plug-in is not compatible with this editior version.   Please uninstall and go to avid.com/ama to download and install updated AMA versions.  MVP_MSP_SonyXDCAM_64_bit"

Where is the Sony Plug-in located?   It doesn't show up in windows programs & features.

Thanks.

GTX cards and Avid

$

I worked for many years in MC  (up to V5) using a Quadro 2000.

A few years ago I decided to try Premiere Pro, and there are problems using the Quadro 2000.

So it's time to get a new card. I'm thinking about the gtx 1060 (3GB or 6 GB)

I can't say I'm enthralled with Premiere Pro - but that's a different story - I'm still there, but want to leave the option to use my existing MC V5, and perhaps come back to Avid to the latest version, if I get fed up of Premiers Bugs.

So to my questions

1) With my existing Quadro 2000 still work with the latest versions of MC?

2) What is the current official Avid stand on the use of the gtx cards with MC (as opposed to quadro) ? In the compatibility matrix http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/en267087/ they talk about the driver version and not a particular card.

3) What is the status of the use of the gtx cards in MC in practice? Is it being used by a large body of people without any problems ? I searched for mc and gtx 1070 and didn't find anything significant.

4) To what extent does MC take advantage of the CUDA

My needs are modest/conservative - HD, import/AMA .mts files and output of .mp4.

4K, VR etc. are not relevant at the moment

Thanks

MC 8.7.2 Dongle Issue

I just tried to update to MC 8.7.2 through the Application Manager.  Once installed I am told that I am past my expiration date for my contract.  My contract is good until December 2017 (which it shows correctly in the account tab of the Appman).  I checked the Licensing tab and it shows that my dongle expired in 2016.  I have tried to download the dongle updater from the Avid website but it just freezes after I input my dongle serial number.  Ideas???

Thanks,

Hi. I've been away for a while but last I checked. it was recomended to uninstall QT. I have checked the article here:http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/How_To/QuickTime-Support-and-Security-on-Windows.

This is from a few months back, I can't seem to find any more info and I am not sure if there is another solution, perhaps included in the latest install files.
