Installing the latest version of Media Composer on my windows machine. Do I still need to install Quicktime before installing Media Composer or have they updated it so that would not be necessary?

moving media files to one drive
Hey I am trying to clean up my drives. I have multiple drives that have avid media file folder on them from different projects. Correct me if I am wrong but all I have to do is cut and paste the files in the avid media file folder on the drive I plan to use for media?

Sequence to master- or subclip
A quick sanity check:
I have multiple clips from a camera, with free running timecode. For multicam editing with shots from other cameras, I need to concatenate these clips into one master or subclip (multicam groups don't accept subsequences as input).
Is this the best workflow:
1.Create an intermediate group (using source timecode) with all the clips from that camera
2.Edit into a temporary sequence
3.Mixdown into a new masterclip (potentially long and space consuming process for a 2 hours sequence)
4.Use this new master clip together with the clips from the other cams to create the desired multicam group
I wonder if there is a shortcut for step #3, avoiding the creation of a new long media file ?

Sony XAVC-S Footage
Hello All,
I just recently purchased the Sony RX100V as my introduction to 4K video. Apparently there is a problem ingesting XAVC-S video into Media Composer. What's the best way to do this without spending to much on video convertors? What's your best workflow dealing with XAVC-S video?

Workflow help for best method of cloning hard drives
HELP Been trawling the forums looking for this, probably missed it somewhere but just wanted to know. I am using two systems a desktop and a mobile workstation both PC. I am wanting to clone my desktop drobo hard drive with a portable drive. Essentially I will do most of my work via the desktop but I tour a lot and while on the road I want to continue editing projects on an external drive. So while on the desktop I have two hard drives, the Drobo is being used to edit and at the end of my edit session the external drive clones the Drobo. Then when I come back from the road I connect my external drive I’ve been working on and that updates the Drobo. Ideally in a seamless manner…
It will work as both a simpler workflow and also back-up of my work. I have been looking at clone software like Paragon Hard Disk Manager, but before I slide down this slippery path I need help from you guys. Who already clones their hard drives? What works best? will doing it wrong slow the performance (I strongly think this will happen) What software do you use? What did you have for lunch?????
Silly question aside please help I need to do something like this as I am constantly working between two systems and for performance the desktop works best off the Drobo as oppose to an external hard drive, but it is not practical to tour with so I will use an external drive and deal with slower performance then.

How to come back to English?!
Hi Everybody.
I'm an italian user of Avid Media Composer on Windows 10.
With the last upgrade (versione 8.7) the software has all the functions written in italian.
Because of some bad translation and graphic problems (some translations are longer than in english and they cover some function button!) I'd like to come back to English version of the software.
I've already tried to change SO Language but with no success.
What can I do?

Media Composer 8.6.5 + 8.7 XDCAM Export Problem
We have got Problems when exporting Clips on XDCAM. Somitimes it works, somtimes not.
AVID knows the XDCAM drive, but won´t export. AVID says, it doesn´t see the XDCAM Drive"Please connct XDCAM device or insert disk".
Linking and consolidate via ama and XDCAM drive works fine.
We have actual AMA Plug Ins, also tested this with old versions
Any Ideas?

dnxhr 444 cannot be recognized in avid
i export aaf from davinci resolve as dnxhr 444. the original files are arriraw 2.8k. but when i onpend avid, the media sanner told me all the 444 fils need to be quarantined. i tried this process with dnxhr hq, and it worked fine. any suggestions thanks. i need to hav the 444 version for dcp.

Keyboard mapping
Hi I'm using Adrenaline and there is a Picture in Picture effect that I use a lot. Is there a way of mapping this effect to a key? It would make my editing easier and quicker!

Sync Issues on Export
I am using MC 8.7
I am exporting using QT to a .mov file and then using Sorenson Squeeze to create .mp4
Both files play fine on my computer
BUT on upload to Vimeo the audio is around a second out of sync
Any ideas for a fix? This wasn't a problem on my old version of Avid.
I've seen other people have had problems with QT exports and can't work out what I'm doing wrong.

Succesful home built workstation
It's been years since I have posted anything here, but I am grateful for all the information that I have received down through the years. I know there is always a lot of talk about what works and what doesn't for home built work stations so I thought I would share what I just put together that so far is working well for me. As always, your mileage may vary and budget was a big concern for me. For a test I AMA linked to footage from a Sony A7SII that was rewrapped with Convert V3 and then transcoded into the middle quality DNxHR 4k. I was able to run background video and 4 picture in pictures with different files real time unredered without stuttering, once the fifth PIP hit it would stutter a little bit. Ironically it still sometimes has trouble with GoPro footage, but that's been talked about before. Here's the build

6 Seagate 2TB drives in RAID 5 with the on board RAID controller, ATTO Speed test says that I am getting over 700MB/Sec reads on this with over 300 MB/sec write. Way better than I expected

MC freezes at "Reading Settings"
MC has freezes at "Reading Admin Settings" when I try to open a project. I noticed this happens if I have opened a different program (Photoshop, SoundForge, even Word) before using MC. I have to reboot the computer and open MC before opening any other programs to open a project.
This problem just started. I have not updated any programs or made any other modifications to my system. This need to reboot is a pain, since I often need to jump between Photoshop and MC when tweaking graphics on a project.
Should I do a system restore? Uninstall and reinstall MC?

Uncompressed Quicktime Gamma/Color shift
Hi all,
I'm trying to deliever a feature to quiver digital who accepts prores422 quicktimes or uncompressed quicktimes. Of course they don't accept DNxHD/HR and I'm not on a mac, so....
My project is 4k and my DNxHR comes out looking great at 4k with colors being correct. WHen I tell it to export an uncompressed quicktime at 1920x1080 it gets washed out. Not terribly, but enough to notice. I've tried changing my project color space to RGB and that did nothing at all. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Which GeForce driver w/ MC 8.7?
Which driver are you guys using? I'm moving my system over to a new computer, working out a few gremlins (glitches after rendering)...wonder if it's the driver. I tried the newest 3 drivers and then jumped back to 368.39, still seeing some random glitches. Running windows 10.

Media Composer 8.7 Render Error/Bug one frame
Hi,
we have bugs after rendering clips with color corretion on it. Result aft render is for one frame the color effect does not work, rest of the clip works fine.
We got this bug with XDCAM and GoPro materiel.
Rendersetting DNxHD 120, Windows 7, HP Z820, 32GB RAM, AVID MediaComposer 8.7

media offline
So I had to do a batch import on some footage that was offline. All the clips came in except two. Well they show in the bin but still showing offline in the timeline. In the bin the footage is scaled smaller as if it is in standard defination. It doesn't scale to the full size of the view monitor. The footage was shot at 1080p. Any idea on how to fix this? Have anyone seen anything similar?

Avid Confusing Correct nVidia Driver for MC8.7
Avid gives confusing instructions (to me at least) regarding installation of correct nVidia video card driver for MC8.7. Here is history of my situation.
Avid licensing/installation support helpfully took control of my ZBook 15 and installed MC8.7 for me (I do this rarely and can make mistakes). My OS is WIN 7 Pro 64 bit.
Then I found readme to install correct QT version (7.7.9) and nVidia driver (I have K2100M on Z Book).
Readme "compatibility chart" says for MC8.7 install nVidia driver 353.82 and I know MC is very picky about drivers/settings for video card (my current nVidia driver is 347.52 I used with MC7).
Next readme gives instructions to "install the nVidia display driver:" as follows;
1. Navigate to Program Files\Avid\Utilities\nVidia and double click folder for your OS (WIN7 Pro 64 bit in my case).
2. Double click the file for the applicable driver. In my case when I followed step 1 it opened a folder which was titled Display Driver v 362.13--different one from compatibility guide recommended 353.82. I am not good at installing drivers and so forth so I stopped at that point before continuing with installation.
So questions are: (1) should I continue with installing driver 362.13 (maybe that is more current version to use with MC8.7 which was included in utilities folder???; or (2) do I need to go somewhere (where??) to find and install driver 353.82; (3) or, maybe if I just doubleclick on folder labelled Display Driver v 362.13 does it actually install 353.82
I did call installation support to try to see if they installed correct utilities folder but person said they don't handle that sort of issue.

C300 MarkII 10bit MPEG 50 Mbps wont consolidate
We have shot 1080p23.976 on the C300 Mark II at 50Mbps (Mpeg2) Canon XF codec at 10 bit.
On MC 8.6.2 (and also the older 8.5.3) - Used the latest AMA plugin and the AMA plugin a version back - both will link and play the footage fine, however, consolidating does not work - it creates a series of errors, prompting "An error has occured" then a "Structured exception" error.
When shot at 8 bit on the C300 regular (mark I ?), the footage consolidates fine, so I think it is the new 10 bit flavour of the MarkII that is the issue.
Is 10 bit unsupported for consolidating? A lack of support is not mentioned on the "Avid Supported Video File Formats" document that ships with 8.6 in the knowledge base - that document says XF codec is Natively Editable. Nonetheless, I know the camera is sort of new.
Consolidating is everything to our workflow. Transcoding is a deal-breaker, and I know that works, so please just let me know if there is anything I can do to make this consolidate.

XAVC from Sony FS5 won't link
Hello - I can't get Sony FS5 footage to link. I'm on Symphony 6.5 and I've instlled PDZK-MA2_v2.4 AMA plug-in (which is supposed to be compatible with Symphony 6.5) and the Avid says its a unsupported codec when I try to link to it. It's 50Mbps and I saw in the read me file "50Mbps is not supported". I've looked at everything on the InterWeb regarding this and no one else has mentioned the 50Mbps issue. The post on the forum are old and I wonder/hope someone has some insight into this issue with XAVC. Of course I can see these fine in Premiere and even WMP. They are 1080i MXF files. Its a big job so using another program to convert is less than ideal, and I really shouldn't have to ajump through those hoops. I've tried the new Nesbit AMA pig ins too without success. I see the AMA in the console. Please chime in!!! Thanks.
